The latest models of VELUX skylightsfeature Neat® glass, which combines energy efficient LoE3 dual paned glass with a special coating that works with the sun and rain to remove debris.
Compared to ordinary glass where water beads higher on the pane cause more water spots that can hinder light from dispersing, Neat® glass can offer disruption-free natural light.
How does Neat® glass work?
- When it rains, the water disperses evenly and evaporates quickly, greatly reducing water spotting because silicon dioxide coating makes Neat® glass exceptionally smooth.
- Titanium dioxide reacts chemically with the sun's UV rays, causing organic materials that are on the glass to decompose. Rain washes away the decomposed materials. It works even on cloudy days, as 80 percent of UV radiation gets through cloud cover.

Neat glass is one part of the VELUX Clean, Quiet and Safe glass system that comes standard on VELUX solar and electric fresh air skylights.
- Quiet comes from its ability to insulate against outside noise. It reduces unwanted outside noise by up to 25 percent less than a standard double pane glass, and up to 50 percent less than a plastic skylight.
- Safe means this glass is laminated as required by building codes for skylights installed above 8 feet from the floor.
When Neat® is applied to LoE3 dual-paned, argon-gass-filled glass, it combines low maintenance with the energy-efficiency; homes can stay warmer in winter, cooler in summer and cleaner year-round. Neat® LoE3 conserves energy year-round, too, saving homeowners up to 25 percent annually.
What’s the result? You can spend more time enjoying the natural light, fresh breeze and beautiful view.
